The buffalo nickel also know as the Indian Head nickel, was struc by the US mint from 1913 to 1938 as part of a campaign to beautify coinage. To me, The buffalo (or bison!) is a true symbol of my home, the mountain west. A solid and strong creature built with so much might. Some feel the buffalo symbolizes bravery, kindness, and respect. Something we should all carry with us.
